The Menopause Amarant Trust is a charity that aims to help women deal with problems they might experience while going through the menopause. The aims are met by a nurse staffed telephone helpline, a clinic, leaflets and booklets and medical staff study days. The helpline service is available from 11.00am to 6.00pm from Monday to Friday.

The helpline is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week for women experiencing domestic violence. Refuge's fully trained female workers, provide support and information. All calls are confidential. The helpline is run in partnership betwen Women's Aid and Refuge.

The society assists women domiciled and habitually resident in the United Kingdom who are living alone in their own home (either owned or rented) and in genuine need, irrespective of age or social status. Assistance is given in the form of regular allowances or single grants for specific, immediate needs. Applicants will normally be entitled to some state benefits, and they expect people to claim these in full before seeking their help.

The Almshousing in Rochester Row consists of 38 single bedroom flats consisting Sitting-Room, Bedroom, Kitchen and Bathroom. Each room has an alarm cord to summon a Warden in case of emergency. Their wardens live on the estate and are available in case of need most of the time. There are many ways in which they may be able to give assistance to people in need. They include: Grants to individuals in the form of: - Allowances- Special payment to relieve sudden distress- Payment of traveling expenses or associated costs of visiting people in hospital or in homes - Payments to assist in meeting electricity, gas and water bills.- Payment of television licence fees.- Payment for the repair of household appliances Provision of items: - Furniture, bedding, clothing, food.- Washing machines and refrigerators.- Radio or television sets for the bedridden or housebound Payment for services such as: - Essential house decorating.- Essential household repairs- Child minding for limited periods
