"At Grove Cottage we provide social, and some educational, activities for people with learning disability to help them develop their potential, to support lifelong friendships and to provide respite for their families. Each week about 50 local families benefit from the respite and almost 100 people use our facilities. Children can join our nursery group in the first year of life and move through a range of activities as they develop; our oldest members are in the seventies and have been attending for 40 years." The Special Needs Nursery follows the Early Years Curriculum and has links with other settings including the physiotherapy unit of the local hospital who deliver services at the nursery.

The short break unit at Stairways is open to children in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire with learning and associated physical disabilities aged between 5 and 19 years referred by county council social services. Families are given an annual allocation of respite care nights, the dates to be arranged with the Unit. * Runs clubs for adults with learning disabilities; * Operates a charity shop in Southdown, Harpenden; * Provides employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
