About the Club
UNITY has around 15 members and will welcome more - both able bodied and disabled, the club also require volunteers to assist with club outings and other events.
UNITY holds fortnightly meetings on a Thursday at 7.30 - 9.30pm at the Red Cross hall, New London Road, Chelmsford. There is a sub cost of £1.00 and transport is available if required.
Club entertainment includes guest speakers who have in the past talked about anything from cookery to reptiles. The club arranges outings to Ten Pin bowling and of course, the pub! Other days out have included a trip to the London Eye, a show at Clacton and Yarmouth.
Club Aims
Unity is part of the Essex Phab association, their clubs provide valuable support for families and carers, who can find themselves feeling isolated. Siblings can belong to the same club and families are able to enjoy events and activities together.
PHAB aims are:
- To promote integration between physically disabled and able bodied people
- To finance a program aimed at changing attidudes at the earliest possible age
- To promote the sharing on equal terms of activiies between the able bodid and the disabled
- To offer and arrange holidays and opportunities for disabled and able bodied people to participate in exciting activities such as horse riding and abseiling
- To constantly campaign to improve the quality of life by seeking better disabled access to public transport, shops, places of entertainment and so on.
